You have apparently located this site because of some interest in prostate cancer.  This could be worry about yourself and wonder if you have prostate cancer (probably not).  It could be because you have taken a PSA test and you wonder what it means.  You may be here because you have been told by a doctor that you have a PSA that is too high.  Or, of course, you may be here because you have been diagnosed and want help in making a decision on what to do next.

You may want to know what the latest information is about this disease, who are the best doctors, kinds of treatments available, what is Advanced disease, links that you can use for your own research.

There are really three main purposes to this site to better educate the reader with almost 200 pages of prostate cancer information.  (NOTE:  Notice all links to other pages on this site or to other Internet sites are in blue and underlined to make them stand out.)  

1.  The information contained within the site itself.  See the "Categories" above and "Pages" in the "Table of Contents" to the left.  Where there are "subPages" they are listed at the top of the respective Page.

2.  The links to all kinds of information that will give you the latest and greatest information.  See the "Category" above "Educational and Research Links".  The newsletter that gives you the very latest info is part of this attempt to bring you the latest information. 

There is almost 200 pages and 150,000 words on this site and probably many times that much in referrenced material.  It is our intent to refer you to the latest comprehensive writing of prominent doctors or organizations which will allow you to see the latest information. 

We will often times refer you to studies or abstracts of studies that will give you pointed information.  Always remember a published study is not always the last word.  To really believe a study it must be published in a prominent peer reviewed journal as a first step.  As a second step other published studies must have similar findings to make the studies valid.

Look over this site by going through the contents or by going through each page itself.  Then go to the Category "Educational and Research Links".  Here you will find the latest information.  It is difficult to keep a web site up-to-date without having a full time crew working at it.  It is easy to use links to a number of different sites who publish things from large organization on a daily basis, direct links to PubMed and Google for example.  The Prostate-Help BLOG link is available here.

You will see the site follows a pattern from the very beginning - the diagnosis - step by step down too and including Advanced disease.  You can follow the same course.

Be sure to watch for the last two sections of many of the Topics.  They are "Research" links and the last page is Opinions.  The Research links will give you the latest available information.  The Opinions are written to help you in the decision making process.  Things that you will want to know and think about before every decision.

Because of the established name "Prostate-Help" and its acceptance in the medical field and its popularity on the Internet - other companies, clinics, organizations, and just plain people who have a product to sell have picked up the name and changed it in different ways like Prostate-Help, etc.  You will know you have the right web site when you use only http://www.prostate-help.org (or http://prostate-help.org) - the "org" is important -  or when you see this web site with the photo "Don't walk alone".  You will also know it is usually the true Prostate-Help when there is a hyphen between Prostate and Help and I, Don Cooley, am always identified. 

Some of the worse users of the name are those who practice voodoo, organic or herbal medicine and try to convince you not to go to conventional treatments.  Certainly they are NO help nor can they cure!!!  Be careful please - the net is full of unsavory schemes to take your money.  If you can't find the true name of an owner on the site - than it is not trustworthy.  The owner and the affiliations should always be identified.

All of these pages and information have been written in the last 10 years and then updated along the way.  In early 2008 I completely re-published the web site into this format with the result that almost every page was looked at, re-written, updated and ever page will be dated from mid 2008 and later.  New studies were added, new links were added, etc.  By the very nature of some pages they automatically change daily because of the links to changing information.  Some pages are very static with no medical information and these pages may or may not be dated.  Recently I have started to post the Original posting date at the bottom of each page.  Some pages (as I get around to them) may show the original date as prior to 2008.  I try to note when a page has been updated or reviewed at the end of each page.

My intent on some of the links is to give you updated information by having you search certain sites (like PubMed) that has new studies published daily.  As time goes along I have tried to date the pages.  However because things move slowly in this disease even the older dated pages may be as good as the new ones.  If there is a page or comment that bothers you please let me know by using the "Advise or Ask Don" page.
