Perhaps the most important and the easiest and quickest way to use this site, when you are looking for a topic, is to use the "Site Search" at the top of every page. It is almost mandatory, because of the size of this site, to use the "Site Search" capabilities. As an example click "here" to see a search on the word "brachytherapy".
In almost every treatment category and page you will find a "Research On" the topic page - example click "here". Some research may be shown under PHID Info Archives. If you want help in researching other places click "here". All of your research can be done from this web site.
The site is made up of a series of Categories as listed in the heading at the upper right. A Category may have one or more related pages, and the pages may have related subPages. Thus, we have a structure that looks something like this:
Category 1 (Listed above right)
Page 1 (Listed in column at left)
Page 2 (Listed in column at left)
Page 3 (Listed in column at left)
Category 2 (Listed above right)
Page 1 (Listed in column at left)
Sub Page 1 (Listed at top of the respective Page in blue)
Sub Page 2 (Listed at top of the respective Page in blue)
Sub Page 3 (Listed at top of the respective Page in blue)
Category 3 (Listed above right)
For example if you are interested in what kinds of treatments are available, click on the category "Treatment Modalities"above right. In the left panel or column on this page, a menu appears with a series of treatment modes. Click on any of these and you will find an index of all of the pages available about the chosen treatment.
Note when you hover over a Category or menu item, the text changes color. If you click on the item, the related page is displayed and the current menu item remains highlighted.
In the Pages, where there is additional subPages, you will find a listing with links at the top of these pages - the links are in blue. Anytime you are in a subPage you will also see the listing of all subPages in that group at the top of the subPage. You can click on the indicated subPage and go directly. These subPages contain important information - don't miss them.
Notice the blue link at the top of the subPages will turn black after you have visited the link. This lets you know you have visited that page. However when you are on a page the page will always show in blue without an underline. The other pages will sow either in blue or black AND underlined.
On many of the pages you will see a "Table of Contents" of that individual page. You can click on any of these blue titles and it will take you down the page to the title of choice. These are called "Bookmarks" - that is they are bookmarking the certain items on that page. The bookmark takes you directly to that section. Note when you go to the "bookmarked" page you will see there is a direct URL link to that part of the page. You can copy the URL and pass on to someone else if you want.
NOTE: Notice all links to other pages on this site or to other Internet sites are in blue and underlined to make them stand out.
Plus on almost every page at the top right (bottom center on this page) has "Site Search" capability for the complete site. It is really nice if all you want to know is a definition of a word. It will not only find the word in the "Vocabulary, Glossary, Etc." but will find any pages on the site where the word is used. This makes the Site Search double valuable.
At the bottom of almost every page is a rectangle with "Home" and a down arrow. If you click on the down arrow on the right you will be given a listing of every page on the site. You can click on the page and go directly.
Some years ago I developed the Prostate-Help Information Database (PHID). There are over 2000 studies and papers that are useful to a patient today. These are listed by Topic in the PHID and I have imported the most recent 20 items to this web site under the various pages. It is usually the last listing on a page or a subPage. They will be called similar to "PHID Brachytherapy Archives". However I have not kept this current as I have added links to the PubMed database so you can read for yourselves.
In addition you can see the complete "Site Map" by clicking on those words in the left hand column. This will give you a listing and a link to every page on the site. Gives you an idea how large it is and what it contains. An "Index" is provided to give an alphabetical listing of all of the pages.
Categories and Contents
An important Category with which we all should start with is "Your Personal and Medical History". There are several pages here concerning one's medical history as well as a form you can use to chart your "Prostate Cancer Digest" (PCD). This PCD can be used when asking for help from others and also used when you are visiting the doctor.
In the Category "Pre-Diagnosis and the Diagnosis" you will find information of things that may happen before you are even diagnosed. Items that lead to the diagnosis. These may help you understand the process of the eventful diagnosis. there is other information about the Diagnosis itself to better help you understand.
Next comes "The Treatment Modalities". Here you will find a page on each of the conventional treatments available as well as Watchful Waiting. Read about the available treatments here. It should help you in the treatment decision.
"Initial Failure - Advanced Disease" When a patient has been diagnosed and treated and following the treatment there is a climbing PSA - this is "Initial Failure". At this time a decision must be made for additional treatment. This could be "Salvage", Hormonal or chemo therapy or even another conventional treatment. At this point most will consider the patient to be in the "Advanced" area of this disease. The Category will give you information on what can next.
"Other Items of Interest" This Catagory may contain a little of everything from diet, drug interaction, studies, writings about this disease, etc., etc., etc. Each and every one may or may not be important to you but be sure to check it out frequently to see what is new.
"Educational and Research Links" There is a lot of material on prostate cancer on the Internet - most of it is questionable. What we have tried to do here is not to overwhelm you with information links but to give you links to what we feel is important. These links are usually less biased than most and will help you see all angles or the disease.
